Cloth nappies are becoming increasingly popular, not just at home, but in childcare settings too! They’re better for the planet, gentler on little bottoms, and more cost-effective in the long run.
But when it comes to using them in a nursery or with a childminder, there are a few extra things to consider to make life easier for both parents and carers.
Here are some simple tips and tricks to make cloth nappies work smoothly in childcare:
1. Keep It Simple for Your Childcare Provider
Choose nappies that are easy to use and quick to change, like our all-in-ones! The less fiddly the system, the more confident your childcare provider will feel using them.
2. Label Everything
Just as you would with clothes, make sure nappies and wet bags are labelled with your child’s name. In a busy nursery environment, this avoids mix-ups and keeps your nappies coming back to you at the end of the day!
3. Provide a Wet Bag
Always send your baby with their MCN Wet Bag! This makes it easy for childcare staff to store them hygienically until pickup, and it keeps everything contained (no unpleasant surprises in your child’s backpack!)
4. Prepare at Home
If your system involves stuffing inserts into pockets, do this at home before drop-off. Sending nappies “ready to go” saves your childcare provider time and makes changes much smoother.
5. Share a Quick Guide
Not everyone is familiar with cloth nappies, and that’s okay! To help your childcare provider feel confident, give them a simple guide that explains:
-
How to put on and take off the nappies
-
Where to store used nappies
-
What not to do (like using nappy creams that aren’t cloth-safe)
