What Are Cloth Nappies?

Cloth nappies (also known as reusable nappies) are washable alternatives to disposable nappies. Instead of throwing them away after each use, you wash and reuse them, reducing waste and saving money over time.

Types of Cloth Nappies Explained

Understanding the different types is the first step:

All-in-One (AIO)

  • Works like a disposable!

  • Absorbent Bamboo & Hemp Liner sewn in

  • Easiest option for beginners

  • Easy to add to the absorbency with our additional Bamboo & Hemp or Ultra-Slim Bamboo Liners.

The Nighttime Nappy

Separate absorbent nappy + waterproof cover (The Nighttime Nappy)

  • Great for heavy wetters

  • The secret to a brilliant overnight sleep with bundles of absorbent bamboo, and a waterproof wrap that keeps everything contained

Prefolds & Wraps

More like the old school nappies with flat absorbent liners that can be folded in many ways to suit your baby, paired with a nappy wrap.

  • Great for newborns

  • More fiddly - not the best for beginners

  • Work out cheaper overall

How Many Cloth Nappies Do You Need?

For full-time use, we’d 20–25 nappies (washing every 2–3 days). For part-time use, we’d recommend 10–15 nappies.

Starting small is perfectly fine - you don’t need to go all in straight away.

How to Wash Cloth Nappies

A simple routine:

  1. Store used nappies in a wet bag or bucket

  2. Pre-wash (40 minute rinse cycle)

  3. Main wash (long, 40–60°C)

  4. Air dry when possible

That’s it, no soaking or complicated steps required.

Are Cloth Nappies Worth It?

Yes, for many families, they absolutely are!

Benefits:

  • Save money over time

  • Reduce landfill waste

  • Gentler on baby’s skin

Things to consider:

  • Slightly more laundry
