Join us as we ask parent Laura about her experience with motherhood and cloth nappies from navigating pregnancy, to discovering reusable nappies and how they’ve fit into her family’s routine. Laura shares her honest thoughts, practical tips, and what she’s learned along the way, offering a real-life perspective for parents who are curious about cloth or already on their own reusable journey.

'Hi, I’m Laura and this is my Journey with Cloth Nappies!'

Tell us a bit about your Journey to Motherhood?

'My journey began with my son being born prematurely in Lockdown of 2020, and I had an idea of how I would like journey to go with motherhood and raising a little human and that included both breastfeeding and using cloth nappies, and whilst not a lot went to plan with my pregnancy and life with a newborn after that, I managed to prioritise those two things as they were really important to me!'

What made you want to use cloth nappies with your son?

'My mum had told me about a council initiative for cloth nappies running locally at the time, so this sparked my interest and the more I read about them, the more I realised they were right up my street with how I wanted to do things! They are kinder to skin, which was incredibly important to me having had a premature baby, and they are more ergonomic for their hips. I fell in love with the prints and everything cloth! I ended up buying more cloth nappies than I ever needed as I was in love with it all. It was a real highlight of what was a hard start to motherhood for me.'

What is your best memory of using Cloth Nappies?

'Not just one memory, but every time we would be out and about, people would compliment the prints on his nappies and I loved that I could use them as part of the joy in my motherhood. When my son started walking, he had the Kim K waddle with his little cloth bum and it was the cutest thing ever. I can spot a cloth nappy baby a mile off now!'

If you had to give someone who wants to start using Cloth Nappies one piece of advice, what would it be?

'It honestly becomes so naturally to you, so don’t stress over it. Whether you start with 1 nappy a day or you go all in, you will find a groove! I am the most type B person ever, and I found that it became part of our routine. I think I found it easier than using disposables as I never got to the end of the pack and panicked because I had run out of nappies! Constantly having them on hand became such an easy part of my motherhood. Have fun with it, it's a great journey and there are so many gorgeous prints that you’ll love it when you get into your routine!'

A huge thank you to Laura for a lovely and honest interview about cloth nappies and letting us into her journey!
