A new year is a great time to make small, sustainable changes, and when you’re parenting, even simple swaps can make a real difference. Eco-friendly choices don’t have to be overwhelming or all-or-nothing (we really mean that!)
Here are some Easy Eco Swaps for parents to try this New Year.
Switch to Reusables Where You Can
Reusable nappies are one of the biggest eco swaps parents can make, but it doesn’t have to be full-time. Even using cloth nappies at home or during the day can significantly reduce waste. Modern Cloth Nappies are designed to be easy to use (Hello the All-in-One) and comfortable, with options available for night-time too.
Reusable cloth wipes are another simple change, they work for nappy changes, messy hands, and quick clean-ups, and wash alongside your nappies!
Choose Reusable Feeding Alternatives
For babies and toddlers, swapping single-use feeding items for reusable options like stainless steel cups, snack pots, and bamboo or stainless steel cutlery can greatly cut down on plastic waste whilst also considering the harmful impact of plastic food items - it’s a bit crazy when you research it!
Buy Second hand First
Babies grow quickly, meaning clothes, toys, and books are often barely used. Choosing second hand saves money and reduces waste - and many items can be passed on or sold via popular sites such as Vinted again when you’re done.
Alternatively, there are companies that allow you to rent baby clothing for your little one! Borro is a fabulous example of this excellent solution to better choices for your baby’s wardrobe, whilst keeping it your style.
Reduce Plastic Around the Home
Refillable or eco-certified cleaning products, especially for laundry and everyday cleaning, are a simple way to reduce plastic use and support more sustainable habits. These are the one and done changes - once you switch, it becomes a really easy thing to keep on top of.
We’ve had great success with the plant-based range from M&S (and we think they’re good for washing cloth nappies, too!)
You don’t need to do everything at once. Starting with just one or two eco swaps that fit your family can make a lasting difference over time.
This New Year, small changes really do add up!
